In 2009, Citizens was presented a Rural Economic Development Grant by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) totaling $203,000.00

These monies are being used to provide economic development to rural utilities program borrowers. It also allowed water and sewer to be installed in the new industrial park in the Village of New Auburn, which helped Badger State Recovery move its business to New Auburn.

As an advocate for community involvement, Citizens Connected created the "Connected to Community" Award to honor individuals that are very involved in helping make their communities a better place to live.

Since 1990, Citizens has given over $150,000 in Scholarships to area high school graduates whose parents, guardians, or foster parents are members of the Cooperative.

In addition to Citizens own scholarships, they also offer several opportunities from their memberships in the State & National Telecommunications Associations.
